Full of Hearts

Apr-9-2009 By mistyeiz

Despite the fact that poplin has some really gorgeous designs and patterns, I absolutely hate it! The main reason is because it creases easily and I hate ironing hence I try to get material that would not require me to do any ironing. :)

But since I had bought some poplin in my first ever buy, I knew that like it or not, I’d have to find a way to make use of it. So this is the blouse I sewed up from Ottobre 1/2009.

Poplin Hearts
Once I was done with it, I didn’t like the sleeves coz I thought they looked weird. But when Arianna wore it, I think it’s ok. :) I put yellow heart shape buttons on the back.

Modelling the poplin
As you can see, it looks ok and the jumper inside matches well too. Was suppose to make some pants for her but I kind of ruined the bottom from sewing the ribbing wrongly so am in the midst of unpicking it.

I hate unpicking….

My fabric stash has a new home

Apr-7-2009 By mistyeiz

I don’t think I can ever come out of Spotlight empty handed hence, when I went there yesterday, I came out with a rather hurt Visa card! *lol* Thank goodness there was a sale on…so this is my latest purchase from Spotlight.

New buys
I don’t think I can ever come out of Spotlight empty handed. This is my latest damage from the clearance sale at Spotlight. It will definitely keep me busy for a long while! The top left solid color ones are ribbing, right top 2 are flannel for Arianna’s PJs, right bottom 6 is interlock but mainly plain so I can match with the fabric I already have. The flowery one was a last minute buy as I was waiting for the lady to cut my fabric. It was just *there* and I couldn’t resist it! I think it’s cotton drill…So there you go, scary right??

So after we got back, I was telling Ted that I would now need a proper place to store my stash and surprisingly, he cleared out part of our bookshelf so that I could keep my stash nearby the machine and my sewing station. So sweet!! Now, my stash has a new home….from a fruit box into nice, clean, white shelves and catogorised accordingly too.

Fabric stash
Part of our book shelf cleared to store my almost complete stash of fabric. I think It’s scary since I only started sewing in Feb 09! *lol*

I think I’m done for now. I foresee no fabric shopping till most of these are turned into something. [Lord, pls gimme the strength!!] Plus by then Pacman will be around and well, I won’t be going ANYWHERE really… lol Guess I will be very very busy!!

*O dear…I forgot, mum is bringing me some and another eBay batch is coming in. O dear, o dear, o dear……. :P

Massive clearance sale @ Spotlight!

Apr-6-2009 By mistyeiz

I never hide the fact that if there is a sale going on at Spotlight, you’ll see me there! ;) I’m not shopaholic but when it comes to certain things, I don’t hold back. With this recent sewing madness, fabric and notions have been my poison.

This time it’s going to be a massive $30million clearance sale starting today and omg, I can’t wait to see what’s on sale!! I expect to see the place packed which is not exactly what I’m looking forward to but time is the essence and I am running out of time at being heavily pregnant at 37 weeks, 38 tomorrow!

I don’t think I’ll go absolutely crazy because I did spend close to $100 buying fabric and stuff on eBay recently so it will most likely be mainly ribbing as I only have bright red! So that is what I intend to stock up on and maybe some other kind of fabric that I have not yet tried. There are so many out there and I intend to try my hand at all of them and with the sales, I guess this is the best time to buy them. :)

Wish me luck and that I don’t send us into bankcruptcy!! lol :P

eBay is evil

But whoever that came up with the idea – THANK YOU! :D

Ever since my first purchase which was the Magic Duster, there has been no turning back! I find it hard to stop shopping once I start hence the insane amount of fabric that I’ve since purchased online! *lol* I’m just glad the ones that I had bought turned out pretty good except one piece which had holes in them but I’m not going to make a fuss of it because I knew that these were scrap or balance material. I’ve always been a good buyer and don’t intend to spoil my rating.

eBay stash
And it was a good buy!! On the right is mostly cotton knit with only 1 terry towelling [the dark blue one]. It came as a bundle of fabric hence most of them are less than 1m. On the right are cotton knit as well except the retro green which is cotton and it at the top. [The one with the holes is the solid pink on the left, 3rd from the bottom.]

Like I said, these are mostly knit as I’m into knit at the moment and trying to get the hang of the texture and method of sewing. Plus it’s really nice and soft and most comfy for Arianna. :)

Jammies galore!

It’s now officially autumn so the weather has been rainy and cool the past few days. In fact, it’s been raining buckets loads and a lot of NSW is flooded which is something odd. In any case, I decided to sew up a couple of PJs from the balance flannel material I had from making Pacman’s sleeping bags.

Animal prints
Had a lot of balance left of this animal print flannel from making Pacman’s sleeping bag and since it’s autumn and will soon be winter, I made these up for Arianna. Actually, they are the same pattern as the guitar blouse I did recently only that this is flannel and I didnt used ribbing for the neckline or added any cuffs. This was only because I didn’t have any matching ribbing and red would look silly on this….

I love mummy/daddy prints
This is another similar pattern PJs as the animal print but I had added the ribbing for neckline and cuffs. This is also balance of the ‘I love Mummy/Daddy’ print which I had used to make Pacman’s sleeping bag.

I think I’m done sewing PJs for now. A little sick of flannel too although it’s one of the easier to sew, if you ask me. Time to take out that poplin and see if I can pull off another Ottobre 1/2009 pattern. ;)

Arianna rocks!

Apr-1-2009 By mistyeiz

It seems to be a known fact that knit fabric is tough to come by. So when I was at Spotlight the last time, and chanced upon the only knit fabric I could afford [am not going to spend too much on material that I am currently useing as practice], I grabbed it. Although I am a little wary about knit fabric as I’ve heard that they are tough to sew, I wasn’t going to give up so easily.

Rockers!
First attempt at actually sewing with a proper pattern from Ottobre 2/2009. A big big BIG thank you to Aida for showing me the ropes. *HUGS*

Baby rocks!
Arianna posing in her new gear! :)

Overall, I did struggle a bit with this particular knit fabric, I think it’s all part and parcel of learning the ropes and getting used to it as well. I still have a load of it left so I might try to sew something else with it. Although it is relatively thin, it does its job at keeping Arianna warm. It was not meant to be a PJ top but due to the rainy weather and the clothes weren’t dry, she wore this to bed and I bet it kept her toasty! ;)
