New wheels please?

Dec-20-2010 By mistyeiz

Rachel, our neighbour just drove into the driveway with her new ride. Damon bought it for her so that she wouldn’t be cooped up at home while he’s at work. I guess with the new baby on the way, it was time they either got a new ride for the new family or just a new one for Rach. Lucky for her, she got a new car!

As for us, we are still looking for the one perfect car for us. It doesn’t have to be new but as long as it’s in excellent condition, I really dont mind what it is. Now that we are a family of 5, getting around in our current vehicle is still doable but I certainly would prefer a new and spacier ride. I don’t really ask for much, as long as they got a proper player that plays radio, cassette and CD. Like most women, I don’t really care for much about the car audio system that Ted thinks is important. It’s not as if we’re the kind who would be blasting music from the car, if you know what I mean. I think people like that are sound polluters! In any case, I am jealous about it and hope that this jealousy will shove me in the direction that I should be going to – get my driving license!! :/

A new year requires a clean up

Dec-20-2010 By mistyeiz

If council was going to organise a clean up within the week, I reckon the trucks that come around for collection would be chock a block with loads of old stuff especially presents of Christmas past. Despite having a quiet and small Christmas ourselves, there are loads of stuff here I wish I could get rid of if I could.

One things for sure, we’ve got loads of paper here that should and need to go into the recycle bin but I’ve just had no time to pick them up. Talk about proper document management on our part! I reckon we should be more careful with our paper work especially those that we have to pay and claim back. Just today, Arianna was running around with our $450 receipt that needs to be claimed from Medicare. If she had misplaced it, I have no idea what Ted would do! We might only be left with 2 kids instead of 3. So it’s safe to say that ONE of two new year resolution that I have is to keep the house neat and tidy. Like what most mum I have spoken have said, your home doesn’t have to be spotless clean, just as long as it’s neat and tidy. But with 2 tiny tornados at home, it’s harder than you think!

One step forward….

Dec-4-2010 By mistyeiz

…three steps back! >.<

This is exactly what I’m going through with my knitting. *sigh* Instead of taking things slow and steady, and picking a relatively simple pattern to knit, I thought too highly of myself and well, I guess I was over ambitious about the whole thing that now I find myself in a bit of a rut.

Thanks to Mum who got the first pattern going for me or I wouldn’t be able to start at all!! In fact, my first pattern for this design was a disaster as I had to unpick them – twice! *slaps forehead* And it’s no help that I decided to knit with yarn that is called Wisp….tough as heck!!! :/

Looks like this is going to take forever and ever and EVER. Perhaps it will be ready for winter 2012….. :P

Should I go back to work?

Dec-2-2010 By mistyeiz

I know it’s still early to think about this but I’m of the opinion that one should be prepared for the future. Since I got married and moved out here, I’ve been a housewife longer than a working mum. And even when I was working, it was a temp job based on assignment. The longest stint I ever worked was for 4 months and then I stopped to go on holidays. I’ve done many temp jobs even before I moved over but that was years ago and even though I was working in a clinic, I didn’t need to attend no medical assistant school as it is required here. What I needed to learn, I learned on the spot and mostly hands-on. It was definitely an interesting time in my working life.

So I’ve been thinking about my options and what I would like to do. They say if you’re doing something you love, then it’s not really a job and if this is so, I am seriously thinking about making stuff ie. baby clothes especially and some household thingamajigs and perhaps start a small business. I’m not sure how things will pan out for me since I’ve stopped sewing since before Brandon was born, but within the next 2 years when he is bigger and the girls are going to school, I might be able to find some spare time to sew these things up and truly sell them. Then I can say that I am a WAHM (work at home mum) instead of a SAHM (stay at home mum). Either way, given the choice, I’d rather be close to the kids….and totally avoid sending them to childcare if I can help it. So, we’ll see what the future holds for me, eh? ;)

2011….make it good!

Onesies being modelled

Dec-1-2010 By mistyeiz

Before Brandon was born, I had sewed some onesies for him. From the beginning I was always in favour of gender neutral prints and I’m pretty glad I thought that way. And because of that, all the kids have something different made from the same fabric. While others don’t think much and dont really like to see siblings wearing matchin apparel, I beg to differ. Growing up in a family where there is always at least 3 of us (we are a family of four) with clothes sewn with the same fabric but different pattern, I think I knew that if I ever sewed for my family (which I am now), I would do the same. To me, by having that one thing in common is a symbol of being apart of the family.

I wish they had document scanning services back in the day so that we could have saved a copy of all those pix that Dad took of us in our matching clothes before it all got lost when we moved. *sigh* I’ve never been able to find them since really, and it’s a little upsetting to say the least. Anyway, here is Brandon finally modelling the onesies I made him. :P )

One down….

Dec-1-2010 By mistyeiz

…but still a few more pressies to buy!! Thankfully, I’ve bought Ted’s Christmas presents so at least that’s one worry over. :P Since I know that he occasionally reads my blog, I will not mention what it is just yet…in case, he stumbles upon this post. :P

Suffice to say that, he will be pleased with my choice although I have to admit that it was a hard pick between present X and a dehumidifier for our home. Although we don’t have any basement moisture since we live in a unit, we still get mold growing especially in the bathroom. Either way, I reckon he’ll be totally impressed by it. Heck, he better like it…it’s costed me my arms and legs here!!! :)
