Less men, more share

Apr-28-2011 By mistyeiz

I was surprise that Ted had never heard these words before. Perhaps it’s just something my Mum made up….who knows! :P Since Easter, Ted hasn’t really been enjoying his Easter eggs. It seems that his Mum and brother had both given him milk choc eggs instead of dark choc which he likes. But it’s more that he is allergic to cows milk hence eating those chocs normally make him ill. And this was precisely why I told him that with him not eating his Easter eggs, the kids and I now have a bigger share of chocs and he was most unimpressed! lol :P

While I never knew that there was any special type of Chocolates for Men, I know better than to get him milk chocholate and this is why I would just get him dark choc if I ever buy him choc. As for me, Rum n’ Raisin is my favourite and Ted knows this too. So whenever he’s at the shops getting something for home or the office, he would get me a bar if they are on special. See, I knew I married Ted for a reason! :)

O to be slimmer again….

Just before Brandon was born, I made myself a few blouses and while I was totally stoked that I can now sew my own blouse, I was also taken aback by the sheer amount of fabric that is required to sew me just ONE blouse! Needless to say, I am absolutely shocked and sort of ashamed too. :( I don’t feel as if I’m overweight but at the same time, I’m wondering if it’s just me being ignorant of my body. I’d like to think that I am slightly above the normal weight but do not think in any way that I am obese or overweight.

Although I am not on any Lipofuze, I think I would actually seriously consider it if not for my still nursing Brandon. I cannot imagine how I’d be if I had not been nursing Brandon because breastfeeding does help with weight loss. Saying that, I reckon I should admit that my weight could be better managed if I had some sort of control over my sugar intake – that is my main problem! :( As I’m typing this, I’m having my 2nd cup of tea today. My only consolation is that it’s not often that I take 2 cups of tea a day. And if you’re wondering why its a big deal for me to have to cups of tea a day…well, lets just say that it’s almost equivalent to me drinking 2 cans of Pepsi in a day. (Hint : SUGAR!)

Aaahhh….*sighs blissfully*

I think only someone who loves sewing would understand this post. lol :P Despite the long weekend (from Good Friday right up to Anzac Day, yesterday), I never had a chance to sew and I honestly have no idea where or what happen to those 5 days. I asked Ted the same question and he was just as puzzled as I was, and keeping in mind that we never went out except on Saturday for some last minute shopping and then on Sunday to MIL’s place for Easter. The rest of the time we stayed in mainly because of the crappy wet and bleh weather.

That said, I managed to haul my bum off the chair and away from that evil and addictive FB game, Gardens of Time and slowly set up my machines LAST night. lol Yes, depressing I know seeing how excited I was about sewing and all. :P It takes a lot of effort putting them away but more taking it out. However, the excitement and joy I felt the moment I laid my eyes on that white plastic body was simply….let’s just say that my heart literally did a quick jig in my chest! ^.^ Really!! It was so fun bringing out my fabric coz I missed them so much! I had been taking them out a couple of days earlier to pre-wash them so Good Friday left me in a state of euphoria coz I could see them hanging on the line and flapping in the breeze! Aahhh…..pure bliss!

And then there was the task of picking out what I want to sew, getting my SWAP ready and all that. So last night after I got the machines set up, I sat down and started some SWAPS.

I’ve got about 5 swaps between the kids so that is a LOT of sewing to be done and not to mention that I already have pattern pieces all cut up from before I put my toys away so my focus at the moment is to finish sewing those already cut up pieces before the girls out grow them and then, I’ll be ready to sew all little man’s things! :) I’m really looking forward to seeing my boy prints in finished mode. :D

Now, on with the sewing…. :D

KR’s Emergency Hat (EH)

Apr-25-2011 By mistyeiz

This is the 2nd EH that I’ve knitted so it was a little bit quicker to finish BUT it would have been completed earlier if not for that darn Gardens of Time FB game that I’ve gotten hooked on! *shakes fists at FB particularly my sis for introducing me to it in the first place!!*

Pattern : Emergency Hat by Celia Ng
Yarn : Heirloom Dazzle (8 ply)
Size : 48 cm
Added novelty buttons

KR's emergency hat
KR loves her hat too but I suspect it is mainly due to the buttons! lol :P

Emergency Hats
Both the EH that I’ve since knitted. :)

I’ve quite happy with how they turned out. The only WIP at the moment is Arianna’s Eloise Cardi which I put on hold coz I was waiting for some contrasting yarn which has since arrived. My plans to bring out the machines WILL happen tonight despite this WIP coz I can always knit at night. :) Guess I’m done with hats for now….wonder if I can pull off knitting socks for me, my toes get cold very easily…..

TFL….

Wishing you and your family a very blessed Easter.

Despite the whole excitement about setting up my machines, I haven’t got around to doing it. It’s really nice to have Ted home the whole day, he does the dishes most time so I’m REALLY loving it! lol That said, I’m trying to complete KR’s beanie before I take up sewing again. In the mean time, I’ve begun to pre-wash all the fabric that I intend to use in the extreme near future. :) Mostly will be for Brandon, poor fella’s been using too much pink these days! :P

Anyways, we are off to the ILs later and so, I am preparing to deal with kids bouncing off the walls from an overdose of choc eggs and bunnies. *sigh* Have a good one ya’ll! :)

Emergency Hat #1

Apr-18-2011 By mistyeiz

Perhaps it’s just me that if I knit/sewing something for one of the kids, I have to make sure the others get something too. Since I knitted up hats/beanies for Ted and Brandon, I just HAD to make something for the girls so I picked this pattern for them.

Emergency Hat #1
(Sorry abt the horrid pix – left my camera at MIL’s so had to use my hp)

Pattern : Emergency hat by Celia Ng (Hello fellow Sydney knitter!)
Size : 52cm
Yarn : Bendigo Woollen Mill (Luxury Lake – 8 ply)

I loved knitting this pattern coz it’s easy but lots of little but nice textures to it especially for a newbie like me. I liked how it turned out but Arianna loves it even more! Simply because I sewed on some bear buttons. lol That girls is nutters over bears so I knew she’d like it.

In fact, she loves it way too much!! Didn’t want to take it off in the house plus when she said, “Thank you Mummy!! So pretty…..” while stroking the buttons with such appreciation and awe….I was just over the moon, thank goodness she didn’t see the bits where I made mistakes!! :P

Now, on to my next and last hat for KR before I bring out my machines. :) Can’t wait to get stuck back into sewing!! I’ve missed it sooooooo much and knowing that I have yummilicious fabric on the way makes the ‘event’ more exciting! lol :P You can tell by now how sewing/knitting crazy I’ve become…. :P

TFL!!

O, to be cosy by the fireplace

Apr-15-2011 By mistyeiz

There is a certain beauty about liviing in a unit (albeit how small it is) especially the top floor because we have the option of adding insulation or solar roofs or even a chimney for our (future) fire pit. :) For as long as I can remember, Ted has always wanted a fire place of some sort but I guess we are not able at the moment due to financial issues but I reckon that if we ever get a chance, he wouldn’t think twice about getting set up!

And I have to admit that having a fire place would be so awesome and I could say good bye to those cold winter nights!! :) And the thought of sitting by the fire place with a mug of hot choc sounds so comforting…..aaahhhh…… One day, for sure….I’m sure. :D

A (not so) little Brandon Hat

Apr-12-2011 By mistyeiz

YAY!! Another successful attempt at beanie knitting! :) I now see the beauty of knitting smaller and easier items. :P You get to see the end result quicker and chances of disappointment is low.

This is not a common yarn I think coz I bought it online but I kind of like how it knitted up. Speaking as a new knitter and not having much experience with various types of yarn, I liked knitting with this yarn and would like to get more if not for the REALLY long waiting time. Took them forever to send out my parcel so if there was something that I really like and was in no hurry to get it, then I’d definitely get it from them again.

I meant to stripe the beanie with a solid color but didnt have something that matched and Ted didn’t think that a solid dark color would be nice hence I knitted it all in 1 color. And I’m mighty glad I did coz now I can see how the color pans out. :) Its bigger than I expected but then again, I should have known better. Picked M size so it is huge on Brandon which simply means that it will last a couple of years, at the very least!

Pattern : Brandon Ribbed Beanie Hat
For Brandon
Yarn : Aolanni Cashmere Wool

Hello! I can see better now….’brim’ turned up which will be for now.

2 down….2 to go!! What hat pattern shall I knit up next for the girls?

A close call!

Apr-11-2011 By mistyeiz

You’d think that by now the kids would know better than to touch ‘Mummy’s knitting’. But sometimes, I guess the temptation is just too hard to resist….and when it gets too quiet in the house, you know something is just not right. Something ‘baaaaaaaaaaaad’ is happening….

Almost!
And this is why one should never ever leave any WIPs where little fingers can reach them… >.<

Thankfully, KR had only unwind the ball of yarn and left the stitches on the needle. Phew! AND I’m glad that this was chunky yarn too, if it was 4 ply…I might have had to throw it out what with the knots and tangles. That’ll teach me to leave my WIPs around…. :/

Making a Brandon Hat for Brandon

Apr-10-2011 By mistyeiz

I’m still in the mood for making hats since my somewhat successful attempt at Ted’s beanie so now I’m on to hat #2 which is for Brandon. What a coincidence that this pattern is called Brandon Ribbed Beanie Hat! :P I’m using this yarn I bought online from a site which sells China made things. I thought I give it a go since new customers get some 65% off the RRP and I thought why the hell not? Plus I did get me a set of bamboo CNs as well and for that price (AU15+ for 11 sizes) is dirt cheap and does the job too.

While I am totally enjoying the knitting, there is a problem and the problem is that I am currently suffering from really badly split fingers. I’m not sure what is causing it but typing hurts, and anything that requires me to use my index finger, hurts. At the moment, I’m typing with the pads of my index fingers and not my tips. Really irritating! The skin is that dry that it splits. :( Despite me constantly using my hand cream and using gloves when I wash the dishes, nothing is helping. I’m really suffering in silence here. :(

This suffering reminds me of Stan who had a Maritime injury and he didn’t tell anyone about it until Bev found out about it recently. She was furious! But they sorted it out in the end….at least one less person suffering. When will it be my turn?? I’m do over dealing with my dry skin…!!
